National Special Education Day

National Special Education Day is December 2 of every year. It marks the anniversary of our nation’s first federal special education law, the Individuals With Disabilities Education Act, which President Gerald Ford signed on December 2, 1975.

The purpose of special education is to provide equal access to education for children ages birth through 21 by providing specialized services that will lead to school success in the general curriculum. If you have a talent for working with young people or you have always felt at ease with people with special needs, perhaps you should heed that call. The importance of special education in the world will never go away; kids with special needs will always need individualized, exceptional care.
