December is National Drunk and Drugged Driving Prevention Month, a time to raise awareness about the consequences of driving under the influence of alcohol and drugs.Through this initiative, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration states that it will continue to raise public awareness about the dangers of impaired driving, whether drivers are under the influence of alcohol, drugs or both. Alcohol-related crashes accounted for 29 percent of all traffic fatalities last year but are “100 percent preventable,” an agency press release states. National Impaired Driving Prevention Month encourages families, educators, health care providers, and community leaders to promote responsible decision-making when operating motor vehicles and encourage young people to live free of drugs and alcohol..Drink responsibly, drive responsibly and encourage family members, friends and co-workers to be safe and responsible drivers for the holidays and beyond.
