Transitioning From The 11th To 12th Grade

By Keyda Lowe

Once I found out I passed all my classes in my junior year and realized I was going to be a senior in a few short months I was ecstatic. I couldn't believe that all my hard work these past three years had led me to this opportunity to finally graduate. I couldn't attend orientation the week before my first day as a senior because my family and I were away on vacation at the time. I strongly suggest that any junior or future senior go to orientation if possible so you can get your schedule before school starts and find all your classes. My first day as a senior I had NO idea where to go and I was filled to the brim with fear of who I might have classes with or who I might have as my teachers. Don't be afraid to ask someone for help in where you need to go, whether that be another student or an administrator. My first day as a senior was everything I could hope for and more, I met new people, loved every one of my teachers and what they taught, I just knew this upcoming year was going to be amazing. But sometimes I have problems with staying focused, so I always turn off my phone during class and don't turn it on until lunch that way I have a good reason to not be on my phone. Prom is going to be the number one thing (besides graduating) that I’m looking forward to this year. Prom is an amazing experience and there is no way I’m going to miss out.

Now a month into my senior year my feelings haven't changed, I love the opportunities I am being shown and I have so many supporters to help guide me in what path I want to take after high school. Staying organized is not as hard as a lot of people say it is. I usually just keep my paperwork for classes in a class assigned folder or binder and I don't throw away any of my work because I might need it later on. I think it is a good idea to have a plan after high school, how I created my plan was figuring out what I liked in my free time and if I could pursue it in college or in a job. I am currently putting my plan into motion by asking college degree professionals on what I personally should do but everyone is different. In conclusion, don't make your senior year harder than it should be. It could be fun or it could be stressful, it is ultimately your choice.
