Literacy and Multilingualism
To be multilingual means using or having the ability to use several languages with the same amount of fluency. In countries such as India, South Korea, South Africa, and Switzerland students are actively learning english from the age of 10. Unfortunately, literacy challenges are still a widely spread issue. Because of this The United Nations has declared today International Literacy Day as a way to highlight the worlds need to improve literacy rates. “Despite progress made, literacy challenges persist, distributed unevenly across countries and populations. Embracing linguistic diversity in education and literacy development is central to addressing these literacy challenges and to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals.”
